What is Ayurveda? Ayurveda is a complete, holistic medical science that came to be over 5,000 years ago. In Sanskrit, one of the oldest written language on our planet, “ayus” means life and “veda” is knowledge. In other words, Ayurveda is the knowledge or study of life. It can also be described as the art of living. Although the earliest records date back thousands of years, it is considered to be a 'living wisdom' system that evolves and holds relevance throughout time. This is because it’s a system based on the universal laws of nature, which can be applied to any time period, culture, or geographic location. The primary goal of Ayurveda is Self-healing by promoting well-being and alleviating dis-ease. There are a variety of tools used to assist this healing process, they include: foods, herbs, yogic practices, rejuvenation therapies, lifestyle regimes, and five sense therapies (aromatherapy, body therapies, color and gem therapy, and sound healing). Each tool is set in place with an individuals needs in mind, and with the purpose of creating an inner and outer environment for optimal heath. Through observation of the five elements, we can learn how each element expresses itself within our own being and can determine if it is manifesting properly, deficiently, or in excess. Each person is born with a certain ratio of elements that makes up their constitution or genetic blueprint. As our original state wavers throughout our life, we can apply remedies with the opposite quality of the element out of balance to restore balance of mind, body, and spirit. Setting up your Ayurvedic Consultation: First, you will fill out an Intake Form and return it within 24-hours before your scheduled appointment. The Initial Consultation takes approximately 1.5 hours where I'll ask you a number of questions related to your intake form and use variety of Ayurvedic diagnostic tools, such as pulse and tongue assessment. Within the first month, it's encouraged to meet regularly since we are often the most vulnerable at the beginning of making any real change. Creating new habits and behaviors takes a commitment of time and energy, varying from person to person. I'm here to provide honest feedback along the way, hold accountability, and be with you step by step as you reach your goals. Ongoing follow-up visits are for checking in about previous recommendations and to receive continued support around lifestyle and dietary shifts. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have about this process! |
I started Ayurvedic consultations with Camina in the spring of 2013. It has been, without a doubt, one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself! My Ayurvedic consultation appointment is always a bright spot on my calendar. I know I will come away from each visit with new tools, inspiration and a more positive outlook. I was blessed to be able to work with Camina. Step by gentle step, Camina introduced me to many spiritually and physically supportive practices. I learned so much in the months we worked together!! And I still experience great benefits from the practices. But most importantly, her deeply conscious valuing of Ayurveda combined with her truly non-judgmental, open-hearted presence, create in her the makings of a true healer. I will always be thankful for the opportunity I had to get to know Camina and benefit from her knowledgable, compassionate care. -Jan Tannarome |
